Fire Pit Installation: McLean

How To Select The Appropriate Fire Pit for your McLean Home

Almost every client that calls our office is interested a fire pit for their McLean home, although many are interested to learn of the different fire features that we can construct.  Whether it be a fire pit, fire table or chimney, people are enchanted with the idea of sitting around an open flame with family and friends.  Most clients have an idea of what they are looking for but are unaware of all of the options available to them.  It’s also very difficult to have an expectation of cost unless you’ve been through this process before.

The first thing to consider is whether you want a natural wood burning flame or a natural gas (or propane) flame.  There are other energy options as well but rarely do they put off enough heat.  If gas is the choice for you, you’ll need to decide if you want to use a refillable tank or if you want us to hire a plumbing company to connect directly into your homes gas supply.  Few homeowners decide to connect directly into their gas supply because after permitting, materials and labor, the cost is typically anywhere between $1,500.00 and $3,500.00.  This is before spending any money on the actual fire feature.  This typically catches most homeowners by surprise and they quickly revert back to other options (and understandably so).  Once the decision is made of what type of flame source you want, a general cost expectation has been learned and this will typically give us a direction to pursue as it relates to fire pit vs. fire table or chimney.

CHIMNEY.  A chimney is typically ruled out rather quickly because they are comparably expensive to install correctly and oftentimes they don’t accommodate that ‘campfire feel’ that everybody is looking for.  You can sit in front of one of these beautiful chimneys and it can provide for a very intimate and romantic scene but you can’t huddle a family around it and create as much of a fun gathering atmosphere relative to a campfire scene you can create with a fire pit.

FIRE TABLE.  If you want to go the fire table route, this typically means you don’t have a ton of space to work with and you will probably be purchasing some kind of pre-fabricated dining table/fire table combo that simply needs to be delivered and set in place.  These are great features and make sense for a lot of families.  Another situation in which we see fire tables as popular is when you are looking for a very formal and simplistic setting.  There are many fire table options to consider and we are happy to help you navigate through the decision process.

FIRE PIT.  Fire pits are far and away the most popular fire feature option, making McLean, VA fire pit installation one of our most popular services.  When choosing a fire pit it’s important to consider whether you have ample outdoor space to have a stationary fire pit set in place or something light-weight enough to relocate as needed.  Many of our clients have a small to medium sized patio and the stationary fire pit can sometimes be in the way.  Most clients end up choosing a light weight and movable fire pit not only for this flexibility but also because they typically can be purchased easily for $500.00 or less.  We’ve learned over the years that very few families use their fire pit frequently enough to justify spending thousands of dollars.  If you do think you’ll use your fire pit a ton, great!

PROPANE FIRE PIT. Installing a propane fire pit will make it all the easier to enjoy sitting by the fire at home. With propane, wood and refilling gel are not needed so you do not have to worry about maintaining the flame. This also allows for more creative and modern design options for your home fire pit.

GAS FIRE PIT. Gas fire pits are a great option for those who want a permanent fixture and a luxurious feature in their backyard. With a gas flame, there is no need for wood or matches and the flame will never run out of fuel. Meaning you can spend countless hours sitting around the fire without any concern. There are also numerous high-end design options when you go with the gas option.

OUTDOOR FIRE PIT. Outdoor fire pits bring your backyard landscape to the next level. They provide a place for you, your family, and guests to gather. With a variety of options, we are confident that we can help you find the right fire pit for your backyard patio or deck.

WOODFIRE PIT. A Woodfire pit provides a different experience as they are essentially a campfire in the comfort of your property. This option adds additional elements such as the crackling of the wood and the smell of rich smoke creating a wilderness-like atmosphere. Do not overlook the comfort and warmth of a wood fire pit.

PATIO FIRE PIT. An outdoor patio is a perfect place to have a fire pit as it creates another place for your and guests to gather. Whether you want a propane, gas, or wood pit we can help you find what is best for you then install the fixture.

Stationary pits will typically come in two forms, pre-fabricated or custom.  If we can find a prefabricated fire pit that fits your needs, it will typically save you money.  You can expect that one of these fire pits will cost between $1,800.00 and $5,000.00.  Conversely, if you want a truly custom fire pit, the cost could be as low as $6,000.00 and as high as $15,000.00.  It just depends on the size, utility extensions and materials chosen.

During the planning phase of a custom fire pit for your McLean home, we will create a plan for a fire pit that meets your aesthetic and functional needs.  We’ll then create an itemized budget so that you can understand the cost and where it’s coming from.  We will then continue to work with you in order to make sure your fire pit brings you value and addresses all needs.

In the end, it’s all about your goals.  Sifting through all of the options can be overwhelming.  We are here to help you navigate through your options and to make it a fun, low-stress process. If you’re interested in fire pit installation for your McLean home, contact us today.
